Building Houston's Quantum Future

A student-led initiative preparing the next generation for quantum technologies across Houston.

it's quantum's time

Quantum computing is one of the most important technologies of the next decade, with the potential to transform industries ranging from energy and healthcare to space exploration, but awareness and education are not keeping pace with its rapid development.

The Houston Quantum Literacy Initiative is working to close this gap by helping students engage with quantum concepts earlier, build foundational understanding, and see clear pathways into the field. Through accessible learning, hands-on experiences, and real-world connections, we aim to prepare the next generation to participate in, and help lead, the quantum-driven future.

Why Houston

Space Economy Hub

Houston is the center of the emerging space economy where quantum could transform navigation, sensing, and deep space communication. Ellington Airport is known as the Houston spaceport, the world's first urban commercial spaceport.

Medical Economy Hub

The Texas Medical Center in Houston is the world's largest medical complex covering 675 acres with 50+ medical facilities, 120,000+ employees, and over 10 million patients.

Energy Hub

Houston is the energy capital of the world with over 4,700 energy-related firms, 14 Fortune 500 energy company headquarters, 250,000+ energy jobs, and over 15% of US oil refining capacity. Through the dedicated Energy Corridor, it serves as a global hub for oil and gas exploration, top-tier petrochemical manufacturing, and emerging technologies in hydrogen, clean tech and nuclear.

What we do

Quantum Pop

Quantum Pop

Making quantum visible, interesting, and accessible

Quantum Pop is our student-created media channel designed to introduce quantum science through storytelling, short-form content, and pop culture. It helps students see that quantum is not just difficult science — it is exciting, creative, and connected to the future. We use videos and visual explainers to simplify concepts such as qubits, superposition, and quantum computing applications for younger audiences and first-time learners.

Quantum Education Network

Quantum Education Network

Building a Houston-wide culture of student quantum learning

We are creating a growing network of after-school programs, peer tutorials, and interactive student activities that introduce quantum concepts and opportunities in an approachable way. This includes beginner-friendly learning sessions, peer discussions, hands-on games such as Quantum Tic Tac Toe, and early exposure to programs, research pathways, and future careers in quantum. The initiative begins at Carnegie Vanguard High School and is designed to expand over time.

Quantum Discovery Days

Quantum Discovery Days

Connecting students to real-world quantum innovation

Quantum Discovery Days give students the opportunity to visit labs, meet scientists, and explore companies working in advanced technology. These experiences help students understand how quantum ideas connect to Houston’s leading sectors, especially space, energy, and healthcare.

Community and industry partnerships

Community and industry partnerships

Growing Houston's quantum ecosystems together

Growing Houston’s quantum ecosystem together Quantum literacy does not grow in isolation. It takes collaboration among students, schools, universities, scientists, companies, and public leaders. This initiative supports events, partnerships, and community-building efforts that can strengthen Houston’s long-term role in the quantum future. A major long-term goal is a Houston Quantum Summit that brings together policymakers, industry leaders, educators, universities, and students.

Our vision

Why this matters now

Quantum technology is advancing quickly, in some areas faster than many experts predicted. Yet the pipeline of talent, awareness, and early education is still too limited.

Many of the future researchers, engineers, educators, and innovators in quantum are in high school today. If students are not introduced to this field early, the future workforce will fall behind the pace of the technology itself.

The Houston Quantum Literacy Initiative exists to help make sure that does not happen.

Quantum INnovation Hub

We believe Houston can become a national hub for quantum innovation... but leadership starts with awareness, access, and community.

Our vision is to help students see that they are not too young to engage with the technologies shaping the future. By making quantum more understandable, more visible, and more connected to real-world opportunity, we hope to help build the workforce and ecosystem that tomorrow will need.
